Wohoo! On Saturday two of us completed the first ascent of the Sutter Traverse, a grand sneak tour of 21 peaks in the Sutter Buttes. The design of this route was incredibly difficult, taking just over 4 years to map, my longest mapping project ever. The entire route worked incredibly smoothly as all the built in safety precautions were solid. The terrain we experienced was among some of the most beautiful Ive ever seen. The buttes are characterized by a series of exceptionally steep volcanic crags dotted with oaks, seemingly rising up out of nowhere. There was a fair amount of class 3 to be climbed, some of which was solid with other spots of crumbly volcanic choss. The entire route took just over 22 hours to complete.
Stats: ~26.2 miles 12,000 ft gain
Difficulty: V, class 3
