Successful FAIL of a 5-day central Sierra traverse on 6/11-12: We were unprepared for snow conditions (way more snow than we thought) and had to bail after the 6th peak (which we also failed because the summit block looked deadly). By Saturday night, we had made it to the Margaret Lakes Basin, 4 peaks away from my estimated progress for that day. All throughout Saturday night, we were pummeled with thundersnows, and woke up Sunday morning to a winter wonderland. While winter wonderlands may be good in December, they were not very welcome in mid-June during a traverse attempt. It wasnt a total loss. Getting into the area made me realize a more efficient way to map it, and we will likely attempt it again soon with better conditions.
