North Face of Les Drus (3754m), Chamonix
Read the blog: https://alpineteam.co.nz/…/north-face-petit-dru-allain-lein…
While ice is flowing in the valleys, the high mountains are mostly bone dry, so it was a perfect opportunity for a winter dry-tooling climb on the Petit Dru via the classic 850m long Allain-Leininger line on the North Face.
Alastair McDowell and British climber Tom Seccombe climbed the route over two days with a bivouac half-way up the face enjoying mild temps and a full moon guiding their exciting off-route abseil descent of the North Face, finally making it back to their skis by sunrise in time for a 2000m ski back to town.
