Building climbing partnerships with more experienced mentors can help take your climbing to a higher level much more quickly than it would through trial and error with climbing partners of the same level. Rose Pearson experienced this when learning to ice climb in the Canadian Rockies, expedition climbing in Peru with mentors Reg and Steve, and winter alpine climbing in Chamonix with Dan.

"My mentors over the past few years gave me great advice about route strategies, how to pack lighter, how far to push myself without over-stretching my limits. I gained the confidence to try bigger routes with equal & less experienced partners like on the Taulliraju West Ridge and Sheila Face. During multi-day winter ascents in the Alps, learning good systems for bounce testing on long abseil descents to ration my rack was one valuable thing I learnt from Dan. So far I have really enjoyed the process and my involvement has definitely made me a safer climber."
