Mera Peak & Ama Dablam // SUMMITS!!
It’s been an amazing & big few days here on Ama Dablam for everyone!
So here goes:
On 23rd Martin, Dorje & myself left Camp 2 at 2:30am & summited Ama Dablam at 10:00am! Martin did really well & I know it meant a lot to him as he turned back from C2 last year due to bad weather.
On the same day Steph, Miles & Kate headed up from BC to C1 with Finjo Sherpa & I dropped down to meet them & spend the night at C1.
On 24th the 4 of us plus Finjo Sherpa & Pasang Sherpa (who was already at C1) headed along the ropes up to C2 passing Martin & Dorje coming down from C2 on route to BC! It was a tough with big packs from Steph, Miles & Kate but they loved the terrain. Steph decided here that C2 was enough for her & would stay in the morning. A tough decision but, as always, the right one.
On 25th Miles, Kate, Finjo, Pasang & myself left C2 at 02:30am. Out of camp and straight up into the legendary grey couloir before topping out onto Mushroom Ridge. The exposure here is incredible & the climbing is excellent. After 4 hrs 15 we reached Camp 2.9 (sometimes used) and took a break. By my math is it was 6 hours to the top.
After some thought Miles decided to call it a day here & throughly enjoyed the descent in his own time back to C2 with Pasang.
Kate, Finjo & myself pushed on & topped out on Ama at 12:30pm! A huge push from Kate who dug super deep throughout especially in the last few hours! The weather wasn’t especially kind with more wind & cloud preventing any sunshine from warming us - it was a chilly night!
All safely back down at Basecamp now, showered, smiling, happy & pleased with what they all individually achieved!!
