A bad start to the day today when black clouds and thunder rolled in around 7:15. We managed to sprint the short distance to the Rifugio Gnifetti where we waited until 10 when the weather improved and we were able to make a quick ascent of the Pyramid Vincent 4213m. The storm has returned now and we are all relaxing in the Gnifetti again.

Vlad Capusan from Romania has been fortunate to climb all over the world, including half a dozen expeditions to the Himalaya, resulting in a solo ascent of Kusum Kanguru and, in 2016, the first ascent of a lovely peak in the Makalu-Barun region. That same year he completed a long new route on the rarely climbed north side of Bugaboo Spire in Canada. A five-day attempt last spring on a new route on Pumori (7,148m), with Zsolt Torok, is covered in AAJ 2018. The two men made it about 900 meters up a very steep, unclimbed wall on the left side of Pumori’s south face before avalanches sent them down. He plans to return.
