Personal Websites thread on Summitpost updated

I just received a reply on my Personal Websites thread which I started in 2006
Reply from Peninsula of San Diego

I just finished redesigning my website; not sure if you ever saw the original. The original was designed using iWeb. Although somewhat limited in its application, iWeb is a relatively easy-to-use designing software geared towards Mac users with little or no knowledge of html and css. I fell into that category until I finally bit the bullet and learned Dreamweaver. It was not easy for the likes of me! I came up with a very simple design for the sake of my sanity. Check it out, I'd appreciate your feedback and any constructive criticism: http://www.creekcrossingphoto.com

Icehouse Canyon to Saddle and two T's - Aug 17

Where: RSVP:
Wednesday, August 17, 2011
7:30 AM
Ice House Canyon Parking Lot (USFS Pass Required)
Ice House Canyon Road
Mt. Baldy, CA 91737
Yes
No
Who's going:
3 Outdoor Adventurers
See all
( This Meetup is full. )
Here is how I run the RSVPs for my hikes. I set the number to 1 so that you sign up for the Waiting List. If I have hiked with you or know you are capable of completing this hike I will change your RSVP to YES. If you establish a history of changing to NO just prior to the event date then you will no longer get changed to YES on future events.
We are scheduled to start at 7:30 am on a workday. I have a long drive so I am at risk of traffic jams/incidents on the way. I want to start on time but there is no guarantee.

This is a training/conditioning hike prior to the big grind up San G on Saturday.

The ascent up Icehouse Cyn is a good challenge. The lower portion of the trail is mostly broken rocks with lots of steps so my pace is limited. After that I plan to go as fast (aerobic heart rate) as I can up the switchbacks to the saddle. We will have a short break at the saddle and then go explore a few of the T's.

This hike is for hikers who have hiked with me before.

The length of the hike is uncertain but it is about 7 miles R/T to the saddle so we will hike about 10 miles.

Make sure to bring plenty of water, at least 3L and trail snacks. I am not one to stop for a half hour lunch.

Wear good trail shoes or boots. Also, bring a hat.

DIRECTIONS:

Heading east on the 210, exit Base Line. Turn left at the signal and right at the signal at the base of the freeway overpass. Head uphill.

When you reach the signal, t
urn right on Mt. Baldy Road and follow it for about 8 miles.

Drive through Mt. Baldy Village.

About a mile past the village you will come to Ice House Canyon, there is a sign. It's just before a sharp left turn that is the beginning of the hair pin switch-backs. Drive straight and park in the lot.

PARKING:

A USFS Adventure Pass or day pass is required to park at the canyon.

PERMIT:

Groups are limited to 15 and are required to have a wilderness permit, which Robert will pick up the day before.

Disclaimers:

This is an "at your own risk" event on lands accessible by the general public.

By joining this event: you are responsible for your conduct and safety and agree to free the event organizer, Mt. San Jacinto Hiking Club, any other organizers and agents associated with the club and this website from any and all liability.

Mt Baldy via Bear Canyon - Sat Aug 20

Meetup
Mount Baldy - Via Bear Canyon
will happen on Saturday, August 20, 2011

Who's going:

( 8 more spots left! )
Intermediate/Advanced
The hike will start at the Mount Baldy Visitor Center in Mount Baldy Village. We'll go up the Bear Canyon Trail (6.4 miles; 5700 feet elevation gain), down the Devil's Backbone Trail to the Ski Lodge at Baldy Notch (3.2 miles; decrease in elevation of 2200 feet), and then down the service road to Manker Flats (3.5 miles; decrease in elevation of 1700 feet).
We'll meet at the visitor center at 7am, shuttle a couple of cars up to Manker Flats, return to the visitor center, and then begin the hike. When we're done with the hike, we'll shuttle back down to the visitor center.
Depending on the air quality, there could be great views of the San Gabriel mountains and the valley to the west going up Bear Canyon, then nice views of the high desert and the San Bernadino Mountains/San Gorgonio Mountain up on top of Baldy and down the Backbone.
Bring plenty of water for the hike up (food and water will be available at the Ski Lodge), sunscreen, an extra layer for up on Baldy (it can be colder/windy up there), and your other normal hiking essentials.
I have one Wilderness Parking Permit to use for Manker Flats. We'll need one for each car parked up at Manker (you can buy a single day use permit or annual pass at the visitor center).
