After 2 attempts to climb San Gorgonio via the North chutes in March, Ellen and I succeeded yesterday. We took the trail all the way to Dry Lake, then followed a gully with boot tracks to the base of one of the more easterly chutes. We could see boot tracks most of the way up the chute, put on our crampons, and began to follow them up. The snow was fabulously sticky. As we neared the top it got steeper, but we weren’t too concerned because of the great condition of the snow. It was a joyous moment when we attained the top of the ridge. We happily made our way to the summit of San G and had lunch and shot some pics. Going back down the chute took longer than expected because of our level of trying to keep safe. Sorry, but I didn’t get any pics from climbing the chute...I was very focused on just climbing!
