DENALI MOUNTAINEERING INCIDENT*
Our May 8 West Buttress team was in very close proximity to a recent accident; they were near two independent, roped climbers immediately before they fell off a narrow ridge at around 16,500', unable to self-arrest, down the Peters Glacier.
Our May 8 West Buttress team was in very close proximity to a recent accident; they were near two independent, roped climbers immediately before they fell off a narrow ridge at around 16,500', unable to self-arrest, down the Peters Glacier.
Immediately after the fall, two of our guides set up a 600-700′ rappel to try to find the fallen climbers, but did not see/hear any trace of them. On the morning of May 21, four Mountain Trip guides assisted the National Park Service in their rescue efforts. Our heartfelt best wishes go out to the injured climbers and we appreciate the efforts of the NPS to provide assistance. Thankfully, there were no fatalities reported.
