Eric Newcomb - facebook - Snow Creek to San Jacinto in June - - Went to check out the ice caves which were rumored to appear on average every 5 years (during a high snow season). It did not disappoint.
Conditions: Snow starts at 5k. Firm avalanche debris and névé up to 8k, then postholing through partially frozen slush from 8-10.8k. Tunneling through several ice caves is required in order to bypass multiple crevasses (yes, crevasses). Knowledge of traditional glacier travel is recommended due to multiple 30+ ft deep crevasses, with more forming. All crevasses and ice caves exist between 5-8k
Warning: There is a poodle dog bush "superbloom" at 4k. Careful navigation is needed in order to avoid touching it
