Over the past several years, two climbers from Georgia (the country, that is) have been lighting up the pages of the AAJ with impressive ascents, mostly in their home range, the southern Caucasus, but recently in Nepal as well. Archil Badriashvili and Giorgi Tepnadze will have two big climbs in AAJ 2018: the first ascent of Larkya Main in Nepal, last fall, and the first winter ascent of the south face of Shkhara, the highest peak in Georgia, in February 2018. The latter was the kind of sufferfest we’ve come to expect from these two, involving nearly two weeks and 2,500 meters of climbing in harsh winter conditions.
