Getting reacquainted with the Cordillera Blanca. My only previous trip to Peru was in 2002. I was seventeen years old, didn't speak a word of Spanish, and travelled to South America by myself. I'm definitely grateful that my parents trusted me to travel so far away at that age. My only significant climb on that trip was a solo ascent of Alpamayo, except it wasn't really a true solo, as the route had fixed ropes on it, and I rappelled with two guys from Andorra. One of my memories from the trip was watching the 2002 Futbol World Cup at Casa de Zarella. I arrived back here in Huaraz in the last week of May, and promptly got reacquainted with the local bacteria (spent a few days shitting my brains out). I spent a week in the Ishinka Valley in the company of @robsmith_mountainguide and @gisellecesin. We didn't make it up Tocllaraju (it was their turn to battle the local bacteria), but had a great time, with the conversation always appropriately inappropriate. The last few days I've been in Huaraz with @aceeaux, and hopefully Rob and I will get up to some mountain climbing in the coming days. Photos: 1) Myself on the summit of Alpamayo in 2002. 2) Below Alpamayo after the descent, with the two Andorrans I rappelled with. 3) Groupie with Rob and Giselle while acclimatizing. 4) Rob and Giselle descending the lower slopes of Tocllaraju. 5) Alisa climbing at Los Olivos, just outside Huaraz. @patagonia_climb @petzl_official @scarpaspa @ Ancash Region
