On December 22 at approximately 11:55 AM the Palm Springs Mounted Police Search and Rescue along with Palm Springs Fire received a report of an injured hiker off trail in the mountains above Palm Springs. Upon arriving on scene a PSMP-SAR member as well as a Fire Engineer/Paramedic were hoisted in to the patient by California Highway Patrol helicopter (H-60). The patient suffered a broken ankle and was flown to the PSMP-SAR command post where a waiting AMR unit treated and transported the hiker to a local hospital for treatment.
