#NangaParbat update-1 ( 01.03.2019)

Still no good news of Daniele Nardi and Tom Ballard. Today’s plan is to pick up the Basque climber Alex Txikon with 3 of his colleagues, including a doctor, from K2 base camp to Nanga Parbat BC. Further they will try to occupy a suitable position closer to camp 1. Alex Txikon will operate three sophisticated drones with special power for the flight in high altitude that will patrol all the area of Mummery Spur, up to the route followed by missing mountaineers.

The international Kazakhstan-Russia-Kyrgyzstan expedition at K2 earlier offered their availability for this search and rescue but now they decided to give up, the expedition website states; “The Italian Search and Rescue Coordination Center at Nanga Parbat, considering the high risk to the life of rescuers, decided to use unmanned vehicles to continue the rescue operation.”

The weather though turned bad last evening but still reasonable to fly with helicopters, so we are waiting for the confirmation from the organizers.
French mountaineer Elisabeth Revol is also in contact with the organizer to provide her valuable support and experience.
Below is the picture of Broad Peak from K2 BC by Alex Txikon this morning.
